Abuse in Sports Research

As the primary researcher for Swift Current 7, it was my responsibility to dig deep into the issues that were at hand, and to support our groups objectives with statistics and facts to support why we should approach our screen date the way we did and how previous campaigns and organizations have used similar methods to reach their audience.  Through benchmarking campaigns such as Stepping Up and Draw the Line, our group was able to develop and implement ideas that engaged students to talk about sexual assault in sports, a topic many people shy away from. The statistics I found proved useful in not only generating conversation but also in providing a purpose as to why our campaign was so important. Throughout the semester, I provided support where I could and became a valuable member with my knowledge of the subject when it came to helping facilitate our big net events and our film screening.

Big Net Event Ambassador

The statistics and relatable material that the research uncovered was valuable when we ran our big net event before and after our screening. My presence at these events for their entirety helped to connect students at Mount Royal with accurate information and to create a conversation with them. With the help of my group members, we were able to collect over a hundred pledges, discuss our campaign, and bring the affects and available resources to the students of MRU. My ability to reach out to our target market at a live event proved to be a valuable asset to my team. I would like to thank Kim and Michala for their tremendous leadership as well as Sean, Kevin, Mo, Emily, and Carly for their great work this semester.
