Dream Catcher Workshop

Our Princesses campaign team has worked very hard to develop and implement the Princesses screening, along with a complementary experiential design event. The “Dream Together through a Dream Catcher” event brought together the student body of Mount Royal University to bring to light the hardships previously and currently undergone by the Indigenous community. This event took place on Main Street at MRU where we guided attendees through the processes of making an original dream catcher with the help of Shirley Hill, a knowledgeable teacher and creator of dream catchers. I worked to gain awareness and interest of our events by contacting various MRU professors and Iniskim representatives. The event was a huge success with 42 dream catchers created that were donated to the Iniskim Centre.

In preparation for the Princesses screening, many details were considered and implemented. Our team planned a specific outline describing each episode and activity/discussion that followed. Each episode’s topic incorporated questions and dialogue that our guest Pepper O’Bomsawin could share in regards to her knowledge and stories. I engaged conversations with students and faculty during episode screenings and the creation of REDress flowers.
